1. Battleship (2012)

The board game of the same name from Hasbro, which I don’t play, is the inspiration for Battleship. When the radar is turned off and Rihanna uses weather buoys to follow the waves on a grid to deduce the alien ship’s underwater movements, we have a theory. We find out that Samantha is a physiotherapist who collaborates with army veteran Mick Canales in a side narrative. She leads him on a walk up the mountainside that houses NASA’s massive transmitters. A lot depends on keeping aliens off the phone at their house after they meet the geek.
2. Arrival (2016)
Director: Denis Villeneuve
The extraterrestrial spaceships, or “shells,” are enormous, stony, lentil-shaped spacecraft that silently levitate several meters above the Earth’s surface without ever touching the continent. A delegation of Homo sapiens is able to enter gravity once every 18 hours thanks to a hatch that opens in the bottom of the shell. Human visitors enter a rectangular audience room and are isolated from a sea of ominous white fog by a clear wall while holding a canary in a cage as a sign of agony.
