12. Still the Earth Moves (2017)

Top 30 Greatest Guatemala Movies of All Time

Director: Pablo Chavarría Gutiérrez

Under the serpent’s torsion, the earth continues to rotate. Since I’m always interested in the experimental scene in Mexico, I paid a small fee to see this on Vimeo.

It’s almost perfect because it cleverly uses shadow and slow, repetitive movement to build up a dense fog of ominous imagery before erasing it with bland slice-of-life video pieces, the purpose of which I couldn’t quite understand.

There isn’t much of a thesis, just some Deluezian blather about lines of flight and other things. However, some incredibly unforgettable visuals keep this from being merely passable. – Guatemala Movies
