Sammy the green sea turtle was born on an empty beach and when he tried to climb up the sand slope, he got caught by a seagull. He and another hatchling, Shelly, were taken by the same seagull, but Sammy made it to the other side.

He then got carried away and ended up in the Tasman Sea where he spent the next half-century travelling around the world as the world changed due to global warming. On the day after he was born, Sammy met his friend, Ray, who had just hatched the same day.

They grew up together, traveling around the Ocean in their raft. Ray took Sammy under the water and introduced him to Slim the octopus. Eventually, they were caught in an oil spill caused by a tanker shipwreck and had to take shelter.

As they got bigger and the raft started to lose parts, it suddenly collapsed, leaving them without a home. After some arguing, Sammy and Ray were caught in a trawler net and had to be separated.
