The vessel has been the victim of a series of break-ins, which bring Federal Marshal Lance Thompson aboard to investigate. During a break in the action, crew members attempt to access the cargo hold, but their curiosity leads them to unlock the container containing the creature, resulting in the creature’s death and its escape into the ship.

A fissure opens in the serene underwater reefs off Florida’s idyllic Pajaro Island. Graduate student Greg Chambers sees the seismic readings and rushes to inform his professor Anthony McAlister that a huge earthquake is about to shake the small island.
The epicenter is directly beneath Pajaro Island’s new resort where Anthony’s ex-wife Lynn works. Greg drives to warn Lynn as the earthquake rips through the small town of Pajaro, destroying downtown and leveling several houses.
The island’s only bridge to the mainland is destroyed, leaving Lynn and three others underground in the resort’s utility tunnels. Greg is killed in a rescue attempt, and Lynn is forced to gather the survivors to try to save themselves.

During her visit to Kate’s home, Stacy finds an External HD hidden within her Teddy Bear, which reveals that Kate had been a subscriber to a website that advertised kinky sex encounters; together, she finds her sister’s address book, which contains a few names. Despite pleading not guilty, Malcolm is sentenced to prison. This would be a typical case of a victim seeking justice, however, Diana is wrong. While in prison, Malcolm learns about a fellow prisoner, Anthony Davis, who boasts of having raped a blind woman and escaping punishment.
